Cheats Chocolate Cake

For the sponge

  • 220g stork
  • 220g caster sugar
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • For the topping

    Lidl choco duo chocolate spread

    50g dark chocolate

    50g white chocolate

    Preheat the oven to 160°C.

Grease and line two 8inch cake tins and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until pale in colour.

Add all the remaining sponge ingredients and beat together until light and ‘fluffy’ in appearance.

Divide the mixture equally between the cake tins.

Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. To check the cakes are baked through insert a skewer, if it comes out clean your cakes are ready.

Once baked, cool in the tins for 10 minutes, then remove from the tins and transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Place the chocolate spread in a bowl and soften in the microwave (do NOT put the jar in the microwave.. turns out there is metal in the label! Oops!)

Coat the top of one cake with chocolate spread, place the second cake on top and repeat.

Finely grate dark and milk chocolate, sprinkling on top to finish.

Put the kettle on and enjoy!!
