Orchard County Apple & Cinnamon Crumble

This autumnal/winter warmer is classic comfort food at its very best. Delicious served with warm custard or vanilla ice-cream.

 

 

Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 1kg County Armagh eating apples
  • 50g golden caster sugar
  • Two teaspoons cinnamon

For the crumble:

  • 175g plain flour
  • 85g golden caster sugar
  • 85g butter
  • Three tablespoons of soft Demerara sugar
  • Two teaspoons cinnamon

 

 

Method

Preheat the oven to 180c.

Peel the apples, remove the cores and chop into pieces and place in a saucepan stirring in golden caster sugar and cinnamon.

Cook the apples over a medium heat for approximately five minutes, or until they soften. Stir regularly.

For the crumble, place your sieved flour in a mixing bowl along with golden caster sugar and butter chopped into small pieces.

Rub mixture together with your finger tips until it looks like breadcrumbs.

Spoon the apple mixture into an ovenproof dish and sprinkle the crumble on top.

Finally, sprinkle the soft Demerara sugar and cinnamon over the top and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
